1999 Brookwood Football
"Magic of the Mojo"
August 27, 1999
This past Friday night the Brookwood Panthers destroyed the Sulligent Blue Devils to begin their quest for a state championship. Brookwood's offense cranked out an incredible 455 yards rushing thanks to senior college prospect Ramon Williams. Another senior, Josh Averette, scored two touchdown's for the Panthers as well. Sullient gave a valient effort but Brookwood's hard-nosed offense took its toll on the Blue Devils.
Brookwood's offense played extremly well, even with Ramon Williams having to leave the game with cramps in the 3rd quarter. Other seniors stepped up when Williams was off the field. Players like Robbie Felts, Chuck Brewer, and Josh Averette all made huge contributions in "crunch time." Sulligent eventually broke down when Ramon returned to the game to score another TD and put it away for B'wood.
FINAL SCORE
BROOKWOOD PANTHERS - 49
SULLIGENT BLUE DEVILS - 33

Next week the Panther's face West Blocton.September 3, 1999
It's no secret that if you're going to stop the Panthers, you have to stop the run. Brookwood racked up an unbelieveable 503 rushing yards against West Blocton this past Friday. Ramone Williams, the team's leading rusher, carried the ball 24 times for a total of 226 yards. Robbie Felts, another one of Brookwood's top backs, carried the ball 7 times for a total of 70 yards. An even more stagaring statistic, is that Ramone Williams now averages 22 yards a carry. Something is definitely in the water at Brookwood.
Josh Averette, the team's quarterback, did very little in the passing department but played a much more improved game than last week. The game was a blow out from start to finish for the Panthers. At halftime the score was 26-0 Brookwood. The only time West Blocton ever got any points on the board, was when the Panthers put in their second team defense. Another key note, Brookwood's second team offense scored a touchdown when Tim Cash hit Ben Bratton for a 65 yard bomb. The Tigers were just out maned in this game, and all of the Panthers future opponents need to take notice... Brookwood is for real.
FINAL SCORE
BROOKWOOD PANTHERS - 39
WEST BLOCTON TIGERS - 14

Next Week the Panther's host Oak Grove.September 10, 1999
It's been a long time since Brookwood was 3-0 and Friday's game against Oak Grove was supposed to be the first true test of the season. If that was the first test, then the Panthers have a bright future ahead of them. On Brookwood's first play from scrimmage, Ramone Williams broke lose for a huge 90 yard touchdown scammper. That single play pretty much set the tone for the night. Williams pounded in another TD for the Panthers and from there it was all Brookwood. Just before the half, Oak Grove scored to make it 14-7 at halftime. Brookwood continued to pound on the Tigers in the second and third quarters. With just 35 seconds left in the game, Oak grove was able to score one more time but it was too little too late as Brookwood came away with the win... and stayed undefeated.

OAK GROVE TIGERS - 13
